Hi, my name is ellee ven, and I'm a self-proclaimed groovalutionary. Today, we're going to talk about family. Have you watched Romeo and Juliet, or West Side Story, or more recently Succession? What defines a family? Gangs consider themselves family? Mafia's family.
So the question is what defines a family? And if you're asking me, I'm going to tell you that it's about much more than DNA. The people that we surround ourselves with, really do become our family. Think about the Olympian, who has worked from childhood through adulthood, with people who aren't born of the same family but they are all connected by their passion for a sport. Or think of people who are bonded by the Holocaust or something very tragic. People who have been... Are bonded because of a tragic experience of war. That's a family. Those are people with shared understanding, shared values, shared hopes and aspirations. And to me, those are the threads that actually really help to define a family.
I think about my family tree and my family tree is made up of my musical friends, my biological family, and the people that I work with and create with. I think about my family specifically. And I have family from all over the world. I recently saw a picture of all my cousins and quite honestly, I wouldn't recognize them in a lineup. There's blondes, there's brunettes, there's redheads. They're big. They're small. They have big noses. They have small noses and they're my family.
So today, consider your family tree and shake it up. Consider the people who really nurture you, who share your values, who share in your dreams, who share in your aspirations. But before you go doodling, I'm going to ask you to hit the subscribe button and the notification bell so that we can spark a Groovalution together.
