Reasons to Consider Yoga

According to the American Chiropractic Association, 80% of the world’s population will, unfortunately, experience back pain at one point in their life. You’re most likely already a member of this group but you don’t have to be. The cure is within reach!

In Tara Stiles’ Yoga Cures she writes, “... yoga fundamentals in dealing with most pain are going slow, breathing deeply, and, you guessed it, paying attention. When you move very slowly, you’re giving your body a chance to communicate with you about where you are misaligned by telling you if what you are doing is helping or creating more pain.”

Sound like a snoozer? Yoga is not only a discipline of the mind and tool for self healing but a challenging work out for the body that builds muscle while burning calories. It’s also an immediate mood enhancer. Ever noticed how yoga students always beam with positivity? That’s not your imagination as the International Journal of Yoga Therapy reported a reduction of fatigue along with an increase of energetic behavior in depressed participants. Improve your well-being by owning your body and welcoming new attitudes in your life.

Yoga is popular for targeting the arms, glutes, and legs. It can not only be done anywhere but it provides different levels of intensity. Although low impact, yoga is a practice that will eventually increase your strength and flexibility.

As Bob Harper once said, “Yoga is the fountain of youth. You’re only as young as your spine is flexible.” Give yoga a try if you haven’t already. You’ll break a sweat, feel rejuvenated, and discover the many wonderful things about yourself and the world around you!

Practice is key. The best part about yoga is that 1 or 2 minutes make a difference. Five minutes make more of a difference and so on. Lifting weights and running a mile can be tiring but don’t underestimate the power of a solid 15-minute yoga session. Don’t have time or money for in person lessons? No problem, there are many classes available online for free!

Yoga isn’t just an experience but a lifestyle. The room for growth and learning is never ending and it’s a beautiful way to practice self-care. Millions around the world do it and you should too. Not only will your quality of life improve but your health will as well. Find an instructor that speaks to you.

Challenge your body. Don’t be intimidated by yoga as there are numerous poses and modifications. Be gentle with yourself along the way.
